What Buildsby collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Last updated 8 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Buildsby ("Buildsby," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the platform located at https://buildsby.com (the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service.
By using the Platform, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The Platform is intended for users aged eighteen (18) and over.
Google. When you sign in with Google, Google provides us with your email address and whether it is verified, your name, your profile picture, and the unique identifier Google assigns to your account. We use this to create and identify your Buildsby account and to pre-fill your profile, which you can then edit. We request only basic profile and email access. We do not request, receive, or have access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or any other Google service, and we cannot act on your Google account. Google's handling of your information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke Buildsby's access at any time from your Google account permissions page.
GitHub. If you add a GitHub username to your profile, we retrieve information about that account's public repositories — such as repository names, descriptions, languages, and public activity — in order to help populate your profile. Buildsby does this using its own GitHub API credentials. We never ask you to authorise Buildsby against your GitHub account, and we therefore never receive a GitHub access token, your private repositories, or any data that is not already publicly visible on that account. Anything retrieved this way is shown to you for review before it is added to your profile, and you can edit or discard it.
We use the information described above to:
2.1 Create, operate, and maintain your account and the Platform;
2.2 Display and showcase projects and profiles to other users and visitors as described in our Terms of Service, subject to the visibility settings you choose;
2.3 Monitor for and prevent abuse, fraud, malware distribution, unauthorized access, and violations of our Acceptable Use Policy;
2.4 Diagnose technical issues, maintain infrastructure, and improve the performance, security, and functionality of the Platform;
2.5 Communicate with you about your account, updates to our policies, security notices, and, where you have opted in, product updates and activity digests. You can turn off non-essential email in your account settings;
2.6 Respond to support requests, copyright notices, and legal process; and
2.7 Comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for monetary consideration.
We use the following third-party service providers to operate the Platform. Each provider processes data subject to its own privacy policy and, where applicable, a data processing agreement with us:
| Category | Purpose | Provider |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting & Deployment | Hosting and serving the Buildsby website | Vercel |
| Database & Storage | Storing account, profile, project and message data; storing uploaded images | Supabase |
| Authentication | Signing you in and identifying your account | Supabase Auth, with Google as the sign-in provider |
| Product Analytics | Understanding how the Platform is used so we can improve it | PostHog |
| Transactional and account-related email (verification codes, notifications, digests) | Resend | |
| Error Monitoring | Diagnosing technical faults and outages. Configured not to send request headers, cookies, or IP addresses | Sentry |
| Public Repository Data | Retrieving public repository information for a GitHub username you provide | GitHub |
Buildsby does not host, execute, or deploy user projects. Projects showcased on the Platform link to code or deployments that users host themselves, elsewhere.
We require our service providers to use personal information only as necessary to provide their services to us and consistent with this Privacy Policy. A current list of subprocessors is available upon request at support@buildsby.com.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process your personal information on the following legal bases, as applicable: (a) performance of a contract with you (operating your account and the Platform); (b) our legitimate interests, such as securing the Platform, preventing abuse, and improving our services, balanced against your rights; (c) compliance with a legal obligation; and (d) your consent, where required, such as for certain optional communications or cookies.
We retain personal information for as long as your account remains active and as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Following account deletion, we may retain limited data in backups or archives for a reasonable period, and may retain information as required by law or as necessary for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention and security.
We use strictly necessary cookies (e.g., session and authentication cookies) required for the Platform to function. Where required by applicable law, we will request your consent before setting any non-essential cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling certain cookies may affect Platform functionality.
We may disclose personal information: (a) to service providers as described in Section 3; (b) to comply with a legal obligation, subpoena, court order, or governmental request; (c) to enforce our Terms of Service or investigate potential violations, including in response to a copyright notice; (d) to protect the rights, property, or safety of Buildsby, our users, or the public; and (e) in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections. Information you choose to display publicly, such as your profile and showcased projects, is by design visible to other users and, where you have made it public, to the general public. You control this through the visibility settings in your account.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
8.1 Access the personal information we hold about you;
8.2 Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
8.3 Delete your personal information and/or account ("right to erasure"), subject to the exceptions described in Section 5;
8.4 Restrict or object to certain processing of your personal information;
8.5 Port your data to another service, where technically feasible; and
8.6 Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@buildsby.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. You may delete your account and most associated personal data directly through your account settings at any time.
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Buildsby does not sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. As set forth in our Terms of Service, we do not audit or guarantee the security of independently hosted projects, which are created and operated by users, not Buildsby.
Buildsby is operated from Ontario, Canada. Personal information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries by the service providers listed in Section 3, and may therefore be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, including lawful access requests by courts and government authorities. Where required by applicable law, we implement appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for cross-border transfers of personal information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on the Platform and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through reasonable means, such as email or an in-Platform notice, prior to becoming effective.
